Hello,
I’m Leonie,
I hold a CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling and a certification as an Equine Assisted Mental Health Practitioner. I am also a registered member of the Australian Counselling Association.
With a background as both a Learning Support Officer (special needs teacher’s aide) and a dedicated stay-at-home mother, I have always been passionate about supporting others. Now, I am combining my love for people, horses, and the outdoors into a meaningful practice.
During my time as an LSO, I witnessed transformative moments when students, in a calm and supportive space, felt truly seen and heard. These experiences fostered confidence and self-awareness that carried over into the classroom and beyond. Change does not happen overnight, but with patience and consistency, its impact can be profound.
To bring this dream to life, I pursued formal training through Equine Assisted Therapy Australia, a government-recognised, registered training organisation. After years of preparation—finding the perfect Little Farm, finding our two horses, Georgia and Millie - we are excited to welcome you to our little practice.
What is Equine Assisted Therapy?
Equine assisted counselling offers an alternative to room based counselling. The sessions are offered in an open, natural environment with the opportunity to move around as needed. There are no rooms with walls and doors to create a sense of confinement that can be challenging for some. Room based and zoom sessions are also offered.
Spending time in the presence of horses is calming and can give the nervous system an opportunity to experience a moment of co-regulation in a safe place with another living being. In time self-regulation can be discovered and nurtured. This creates the opportunity for clients to build self-confidence and rediscover some old strengths and build new strengths.
No horse experience is needed, and anyone can participate. No riding is involved.
